Renewable Energy From Remarkable Sources

Our Cows Cropped

YOU WANT TO DO WHAT WITH OUR WHAT?!?!?!?!

In Erath County, work is nearing completion on a Microgy, Inc., project to provide renewable natural gas to the Lower Colorado River Authority which serves much of Central Texas.  The source?  Cow exhaust.  A renewable source.  Trust me on this one.  I live on a ranch, with cattle - it is VERY renewable!

It's amazing to see all the options we can come up with for renewable energy when we really put our minds to it.

Hi Tricia,  Now THIS is interesting.  Hmm.. gets you thinking.

I have always wondered why we don't use waste treatment plants for something.  Surely there is some renewable energy there.

Stephanie, I take it you haven't heard of Dillo Dirt?  It's been being used by gardeners in Central Texas for almost two decades now.

Tricia - Good post. Our local landfill also recycles the methane that is a byproduct into energy. Glad to see it happening.

Hi Tricia,
I love it, the source certainly is plentiful and will not run out. Right?  Will be interesting to see how this goes.  Love the photo.

Mary, where is your local landfill?

Cynthia, absolutely!  Renewable AND creates food - what's not to like?  The photo is three of our cows - that's Nameless, Dot, and Bianca, three generations of our cows (Dot is Bianca's mom, Bianca is Nameless' mom).  Photo taken while we were still recovering, just barely, from the recent flooding and the weeds were taking over the entire state, it seemed, because nobody could get in to mow and the critters couldn't eat fast enough to keep 'em down!

Tricia - the landfill is in my town of Coopersville, Michigan. It is called Ottawa Farms Landfill. The Ottawa Electric Generation station was designed by Granger Electric .

Lot's of cool things going on indeed. One of the cool project areas TerraPass supports is called biomass. Energy from biomass is produced by capturing methane from sources like cow manure and burning it.  Read more about their project HERE and how you can contribute to a healthier, more sustainable environment.

Evan, thansk for the links.  I'm putting them in my Eco-Broker resources file.

Stephanie, it's very useful and should be available down in your area.
